"The Searcher" by HeatherHorton "The Searcher" by HeatherHorton
"The Searcher"
2011
60"x40"

This is another piece that falls in line with a series on "Waiting"...however one chooses to interpret that. I had such fun with the dark floor and the pooled sheet...and Gayle is such a wonderful friend. It was serendipitous.

There is so much power and emotion in your work. I love it. It also reminds me of a looser version of Bryan Larsen.

Such a peaceful feeling to this painting, and the colours are soothing. I agree with DerKlox's assessment of the oval of light on the floor: it seems discongruous and distracts. However, it's still a gorgeous painting with its angles and curves, and the viewer's gaze directed through the window along with the subject's.... such a nice effect. Bravo!

I like the slight buckling of the doors on the left, gives the image movement. Kind of a fish-eye lens there.

Concept, technique, style, composition, it's all well done. :]

Although, the lighter section of the wall (to the right of the door), seems unnatural and not very unified with the rest of the painting. The shape and opacity of that lighter layer of color on the wall (oval in shape) isn't really justified by the reflected-light everywhere else. It looks like an older wall but someone started painting a fresh, bright coat of white paint in just that one sectionl. Or, it also kind of looks like it could be sunlight that's coming from a skylight/ceiling window. Sorry if that sounds a bit redundant but I figure the more detailed I am the better you'll understand what I'm talking about.
