Great self-portrait! Tormented, scared, look on your face, seems you have to choose between two things (symbolized by the two paintings on the left and right of you?) Your face is a *very* strong focal point in this painting, and it works well with the panoramic view.

I also like your technique, reminiscent of Lucian Freud, which is why I am watching you :-) One difference I see, Lucian Freud would do a wide viewing angle in the height (vertically), you're doing it in the width, horizontally. From what I can see you also work different in that you build up the whole image entirely, from coarse to fine (thanks for posting the unfinished version, I always love to get a peek at how an artist works!). From what I saw from unfinished works of Lucian Freud, he works starting from one point in the painting, working himself out of that spot, brush stroke by brush stroke.

I think your work is fantastic!

Poignant, emotive painting. Love your use of space, dimensions and lights/ darks. Outstanding

Wow, thanks for that. I really appreciate your insight and taking the time to post your message. Yes, Freud is my hero and you're right, he does work differently like that doesn't he? I could never do that! I have to work it all up pretty much all at once.
You are correct about the mood. There's angst going on, but hopefully not too overtly.

Thanks again for your comments and for following me! :) I will post more in-progress shots :)

Have a great day!
