I will not jettison my dreams by HeatherHorton I will not jettison my dreams by HeatherHorton
Oil on Canvas
48"x24"

More drapery...wanted to play around with a bit of constraining of the composition, hence the taller format. I had the feeling she was falling when I took the reference. The last painting I completed before heading north to the Yukon Territory...:D

The image I see goes beyond mere technical mastery of a chosen media, it transcends and captures a moment of time, and allows us a glimpse of that very moment, in a very intimate and personal way. For me captures not only the essence of the subject "observed", but also of the artist as the "observer". Speaking for myself as an artist, who also works in the realm of realistic figurative art, it penetrates to the very heart of what is the most difficult thing to capture, not just a accurate likeness of the subject, but of the fundamental humanity of the subject. This piece of art "takes me there". BRAVO!

Love is so over used, but, I truly do love your work. As someone who aspires to depict humanity in my own drawings I bow to your ability to do just that, infuse a real sense of time, place and the human spirit. Gobsmacked in MN.

do you use photo reference or live models?

I like the chaos the folds in the sheet makes, and the calm feeling you get when you look at the sleeping woman, it creates a really nice contrast
